God’s Design for Worship

When the Body of Christ comes togther, one of the primary things we do is to worship. Because worship is so important to Christians we believe in trying to be as faithful as possible to the New Testament. Shouldn’t worship in the church reflect how God has designed His Body to function spiritually?

“And He (Jesus) is the head of the body, the church…” Colossians 1:18

The body is designed to be directed by the Holy Spirit. Worship is an extension of God’s spiritual control of the body. One of the most important times when this should be occurring is when the church comes together to worship. He works in the heart of every Spirit-filled Christian revealing to them what is to be said or done. One person may be lead to speak God’s word, another to bring a song, another lead to pray, while still another may be lead to minister through one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The body of Christ is designed by God to respond to the leading of the Holy Spirit as believers are united in worship.

“When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation…Everything must be done so that the church may be buil.t up.” 1 Corinthians 14:26

Worship at New Beginnings is moving in the direction of allowing the Spirit to move through the members of the body. This is why we have a more open style of worship. There is more freedom for people to contribute. We encourage people to share what they are learning from the Word of God. We also encourage individuals to share the significant things God is doing in their lives. And, as the Spiritis given the freedom to move, the whole body is built up in the Lord!

Jesus taught that we are to worship the Father in Spirit and in truth.

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:23

What does this verse mean? The Spirit lives in every person who turns to God and is born again. The only worship which is acceptable to God is that which is done through the Spirit. The “truth” is the Gospel message that Jesus Christ loves each person and removes his or her sin through His blood so they can have a relationship with God. The truth is based on Grace, which is God’s unmerited favor. It is extended to anyone who believes. It is y Grace through Faith in Jesus that we are born-again. Once we receive the Spirit through the new birth, we are able to worship God in the Spirit and in truth.

We invite you to enter into worship with us. We hope that as the Holy Spirit works in your life you will experience the leading of the Holy Spirit and enter into what God is doing in this fellowship. Our aim is for everyone to be instructed and encouraged, and to participate in the work which God is doing in our lives. Our ultimate goal is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.
